How to become a cameraman?

To become a cameraman, you need to go to University to get more knowledge and skills of how to use a camera in various situations. You must also have an internship or apprenticeship, so that you can get education for a couple of months and you get paid, or you get paid for free while working. Once you have done those things, you can become a camera assistant which helps to set up the cameras before the filming starts. You can then be a camera operator which is the person who deals with he camera itself when filming. Eventually you can also become a cinematographer ‘creates a consistent look for the film and makes images that help tell the story.’

The camera operator I have chosen is Lauren Shuler Donner.  She was born in Cleveland,Ohio where she took photography and went to movies often with a cousin. She studied film at Boston University to specialise herself in editing and production. She entered the industry as one of the first women members of the Hollywood Electronic Camera Union.  She worked on many jobs but she decided that the best for her would be as a camera operator due to her photographer experience. She was being taught about the cameras by the crew of The Tonight Show. She asked NBC to work on the local news.

Auteur Theory

This is the french terms for saying The Theory of Act. This is when the Director is the author of the production. He is the who would choose his team. He would choose the right people for lighting, sound, camera, editing which have a creativity linked to the film that he wants to make. The Auteur Theory was introduced in the 1950’s by French film directors like Francois Truffaut who focused on the contribution that directors made on the style and the form of the film, he quoted: “A true film auteur is someone who brings something genuinely personal to his subject instead of producing a tasteful, accurate but lifeless rendering of the original material”( Francois Truffaut, No date). The film maker has its own style and he/she wants to be in control over his or her work.
